Ageratum

  • Characteristics: Fluffy powder puff flowers in flattened to slightly rounded clusters atop compact mounded plants. Height range is from 4″-18″ tall. Flower is sky lavender and foliage is round with hairy bases. Blooms late spring to frost.
  • Light: Full sun to light shade
  • Moisture: Well drained soils, normal watering.
  • Plant: Deadhead to prolong flowering

Begonias

  • Characteristics: Showy flowers with four petals, in pairs of two with attractively marked leaves.
  • Light: Full shade to part sun.
  • Moisture: Well drained soils, normal watering.
  • Plant: Great for hanging plants, and containers

Calibrachoa ‘Superbells’

  • Characteristics: Produces hundreds of small flowers that look like petunias, compact mounded plants grows 3-9″ tall. Color shades include violet, blue, pink, red, magenta, yellow and white.
  • Light: Full sun.
  • Moisture: Well drained soils, drought tolerant.
  • Plant: Use in pots and hanging baskets.

Cleome hassleriana – Spider flower

  • Characteristics: Produces spiky like flowers, which are held on a tall strong leafy stem. A new flower develops everyday elongating the stem up to 6’ tall. Blooms May through September.
  • Light: Full sun.
  • Moisture: Well drained soils, tolerates dryer soil, normal watering.
  • Plant: Great as backdrops for beds and borders

Coleus

  • Characteristics: Very showy foliage with multiple arrays of colors and distinct veins. Grows 1’-3’ in height, leaves have a furry texture.
  • Light: Part shade to part sun
  • Moisture: Well drained soils, normal watering.
  • Plant: Great for containers, beds and borders

Dahlia

  • Characteristics: Comes in a wide range of shapes, sizes and especially colors. They produce layers of pointy petals.
  • Light: Full sun
  • Moisture: Prefers sandy well drained soils, normal watering.
  • Plant: Great for beds, borders and cut flowers

Dusty Miller

  • Characteristics: Silver gray foliage grows 6”-10” tall. Foliage is very soft to touch, no flower but lasts from early May to September.
  • Light: Full sun to light shade
  • Moisture: Well drained soils, tolerates drought, normal watering.
  • Plant: Great for beds, borders and containers

Gerber Daisy

  • Characteristics: The flower has two rings of multi layered florets in a variety of colors. The appearance of one large flower but is made up of hundreds. Height is 6”-18”. Flowers spring to fall.
  • Light: Full sun
  • Moisture: Consistently moist soils, normal watering.
  • Plant: Deadhead to prolong flowering.

Helichrysum petiolare ‘Limelight’ – Licorice Plant

  • Characteristics: Foliage is bright chartreuse to yellow color that is covered with a velvety down. Climbing, spreading plant with pleasant licorice fragrance.
  • Light: Full sun to light shade
  • Moisture: Prefers, well-drained soil, drought tolerant
  • Plant: Use in hanging baskets and pots.

Impatiens

  • Characteristics: The flower has five petals around a star shaped disc center. Comes in a wide range of colors 8”-24” blooms from late spring into the fall. The foliage is a glossy green. New Guinea variety is popular.
  • Light: Full sun
  • Moisture: Consistently moist soils, normal watering.
  • Plant: Deadhead to prolong flowering

Ipomoea Batatas

  • Characteristics: It is grown mostly for its foliage; it is fast growing twining vine with attractive lobed leaves. It has a beautiful trailing, cascading effect. Comes in chartreuse which is a vibrant yellow green and ‘Blackie’ which is a dark purple.
  • Light: Full sun to light shade
  • Moisture: Well drained soils, normal watering.
  • Plant: Great for containers

Lantana Camara

  • Characteristics: Foliage is large rough leaves, that are abundantly covered through the summer with brightly colored flower clusters. Flowers come in white, yellow, gold, orange and red.
  • Light: Full sun to part shade
  • Moisture: Prefers, well-drained soil, drought tolerant
  • Plant: Use in hanging baskets and pots.

Lobularia Maritima – Sweet Alyssum

  • Characteristics: A mat forming plant that produces spreading mounds of well branched stems with linear, lance-shaped gray green leaves. Produces dense clusters of sweetly fragrant, tiny white 4 petaled flowers. Other colors available are pink, rose, lavender, purple and apricot.
  • Light: Full sun to part shade
  • Moisture: Prefers, well-drained soil, drought tolerant
  • Plant: Use in rock gardens and pots.

New Guinea Impatiens

  • Characteristics: Compact, succulent subshrubs with branches growing 1-2′ tall, leaves are long and narrow, green, bronze or purple. Flowers are white, pink, lavender, purple, orange and red.
  • Light: Full sun
  • Moisture: Moist soil
  • Plant: Use in masses of color in beds and borders as well as pots.

Petunia

  • Characteristics: Normally a funnel shaped flower, they also can be ruffled, fringed or doubled in star patterns with contrasting foliage. They come in every color except orange, leaves and stems are sticky.
  • Light: Full sun
  • Moisture: Well drained soils, normal watering.
  • Plant: Great for pots and hanging baskets

Scaevola Aemula ‘Blue Wonder’

  • Characteristics: Foliage is thick leaves on erect sprawling stems. Produces masses of blue, lilac or white flowers with yellow throats.
  • Light: Full sun to part shade
  • Moisture: Prefers, well-drained soil, drought tolerant
  • Plant: Use in hanging baskets and pots.

Tagetes Patula

  • Characteristics: Small upright bushy plants with dense arrangement of rays that come in yellows, oranges and bronze shades. They grow from 6”-12” in height they bloom continuously until frost.
  • Light: Full sun
  • Moisture: Well drained soils, normal watering.
  • Plant: Deadhead to prolong flowering, great for edging and borders.

Verbena

  • Characteristics: Grows in clumps that reach 6-10″ tall with trailing habit. The flowers bloom in clusters and come in a variety of colors such as mauve, apricot, purple, pink, white or red.
  • Light: Full sun
  • Moisture: Well drained soils, drought tolerant.
  • Plant: Use in rock gardens, edging for beds and pots.
