1. How often should I be watering?
The first week of watering is critical. The new sod lawn should not be allowed to dry up. Water for thirty minutes once a day for the first two weeks between the hours of 2:00am and 6:00 a.m. If the weather has gotten cooler or it has rained heavily, reduce the amount of water to fifteen minutes. Areas of dense shade could require less water; areas that have full sun require more watering. Please check with your representative if adjustments to watering are necessary.
2. Why is the sod around my cement seem to be dying?
Sod can die around the edges of freshly poured cement or small soil base near walkways. This cannot be stopped. Eventually sod will establish itself again as close as it can to the edges
Sod is highly sensitive to heat and sunlight. If you do not have proper water coverage, call your sprinkler company immediately. If sod is not watered, or watered wrong it will burn out very quickly! The corners and edges of property are often missed by sprinklers, check to ensure that your sprinklers are hitting all areas of the lawn. This is why there are no guarantees on sod. Sod improperly watered can die in less than 24 hours.
3. How often do I need to apply chemicals to my sod lawn?
It is imperative to have proper chemicals applied approximately 5 times a year to keep sod green and weed free. Without the proper chemicals, sod can quickly turn brown in color and can be taken over by weeds. See a fertilizer specialist to receive a full list of necessary chemicals and an IPM program.
Your chemicals have already been applied for the first month. During the growing season of April to October, chemicals should be put down between 4 and 5 times.
Sod can remain lush & beautiful for many years to come as long as it receives the proper love and care. However, remember sod is not carpet. It is a growing, living thing that requires proper attention and treatment to flourish. We sell only the finest locally grown sod on Long Island!
4. How often should I mow my sod lawn?
New sod lawns should be mowed as soon as needed, before the blades exceed 3”. Use a sharp mower and never remove over 1/3 of the blade at one cutting. In normal growing weather, the first mowing would be 4 to 7 days after installation. Cut to a height of 2 to 2-1/2“during the faster growing periods of the spring and cut to a height of 3” in the summer and back to 2 to 2-1/2 inches in fall.
5. How much do you sell your sod for?
